Drip trays and condensate drain pans

Pioneer makes drip trays and AHU condensate drain pans to the size of your unit or pipe run: SS 304, hot-dip galvanised, GI, coated GI and aluminium, in lengths up to 5000 mm, for data-centre pipework, AHUs, FCUs and VRF indoor units. These are building-services trays for chilled water and air handling.

  • 0.8–2.0 mm sheet
  • Lengths up to 5000 mm
  • 30–100 mm edge
  • Datasheet + GA drawing

Two kinds of drip tray

Under the pipe, or under the unit.

A drip tray is a shallow pan with a turned-up edge and a drain. It sits under anything that can sweat, drip or leak, and carries the water to a drain before it reaches a ceiling, a panel or a server rack.

  • Pipe-run trays

Long, narrow trays under chilled-water, condensate and liquid-cooling pipework in data halls, plant rooms and risers. 100 to 750 mm wide, up to 5000 mm long, joined with plate couplers into one continuous tray, priced per running metre.

  • Equipment pans

Pans made to the footprint of the unit above (AHUs, FCUs, VRF ductable, cassette and hi-wall units, data-centre cooling equipment), larger than the unit so nothing misses the pan. Insulated versions for chilled-water units; priced per piece or per m².

Choosing the material

Match the pan to the room.

MaterialChoose it when
SS 304Data halls, pharma, food, and anywhere a leak would be costly; stays clean and rust-free.
Hot-dip galvanisedSpecifications that ask for a heavy zinc coat and rule out electroplated GI.
Pre-galvanised GIHVAC units inside buildings; specify the zinc: 120, 180 or 275 GSM (275 GSM is equivalent to G90).
Powder / epoxy-coated GI, PPGIA painted barrier over the zinc, or a colour that matches the services.
Epoxy-coated aluminiumLarge pans where weight on the slab or hangers matters.

Getting the size and slope right

A drain pan only works if water always has somewhere to go. ASHRAE Standard 62.1 asks that a drain pan slopes at least 10 mm per metre toward the outlet (or otherwise drains freely with the fan on or off), has its outlet at the lowest point, has a trap or seal where the pan is under negative pressure, and catches the full width of whatever drips.

The approved shop drawings our trays are made to use a fall of about 1 in 50, twice the ASHRAE minimum, and a tray roughly 150 to 300 mm larger than the unit overall. Under chilled-water units the pan itself gets cold and can sweat, which is why insulated pans are offered.

Data centres

Water back in the white space.

Liquid cooling has brought water back into the data hall. Specifications now call for drip trays under secondary-fluid and chilled-water pipework, under pipe manifolds and flushing lines, and in both hot and cold aisles.

  • Tray sections joined into one continuous tray, so water flows to the drains without stopping at a joint.
  • Hot-dip galvanised or SS 304 sheet, often with the edge turned up 63 mm or 100 mm.
  • Room in the tray for the leak-detection probes or sensing cable your BMS contractor fits.

The same plant makes the wire mesh, ladder and perforated cable trays for the hall.

What is a drip tray in HVAC?

A drip tray, also called a condensate drain pan or AHU drain pan, is a shallow pan with a turned-up edge and a drain outlet. It sits under an air-handling unit, fan coil unit, VRF indoor unit or chilled-water pipework and carries condensate or leaks to a drain before the water reaches a ceiling, a panel or a server rack.

What material should a drip tray be made of?

SS 304 for data halls, pharma, food and anywhere a leak would be costly; hot-dip galvanised steel where the specification asks for a heavy zinc coat; pre-galvanised GI (120, 180 or 275 GSM) for HVAC units inside buildings; powder-coated or epoxy-coated GI where a painted barrier or colour is wanted; and epoxy-coated aluminium for large pans where weight matters.

How much slope does a condensate drain pan need?

ASHRAE Standard 62.1 asks for a slope of at least 10 mm per metre (1/8 inch per foot) toward the outlet, with the outlet at the lowest point. The approved shop drawings Pioneer trays are made to typically use a fall of about 1 in 50 (20 mm per metre).

How big should the drip tray be compared with the unit?

Larger than the unit, so nothing drips past the edge. Approved shop drawings typically make the pan about 150 to 300 mm larger than the unit overall; for example, a 900 x 450 mm indoor unit gets a 1200 x 750 mm tray.

Do you make drip trays for data-centre pipework?

Yes. Pioneer makes long pipe-run drip trays for chilled-water and liquid-cooling pipework in data halls, joined with plate couplers into one continuous tray that drains to the outlets, with room for the leak-detection cable or probes your BMS contractor fits.

How do I get a quotation?

Send the BOQ or drawing with sizes, material, thickness and quantities by email or WhatsApp. Pioneer sends the quotation within 1 day of receiving the BOQ, with a datasheet and GA drawing for approval.
